Hottest Ticket in
Town – All Sold Out
What’s the hottest ticket in town? Thought
is was Pedro going up against his former
teammates in Fenway Park? Not according to
the knowledgeable citizens of the
south-coast, who gobbled up every one of the
750 tickets to the area’s famous CLAMBAKE
XXI, set for Friday evening, July 14, in
record time.
These savvy folks clearly know how to make
sure the outstanding work of the staff and
volunteers at Dartmouth’s Lloyd Center for
the Environment continues to protect the
area’s fragile coastal nature. With two full
weeks to go and a wait-list building to gain
admittance to the famous fund-raising
extravaganza, locally known as “Simply, the
best!”, rumors are circulating that a number
the coveted ducats may go up for auction on
E-bay.
For many, the Lloyd Center’s twenty-first
“Simply, the best!” CLAMBAKE traditionally
marks the start of the summer social season.
Despite the air of frivolity that always
seems to characterize the event’s ambiance,
the folks at the Center take its success
very seriously. Mary Ellen Hawes Lees,
current president of the Center’s Board of
Director’s is passionate about the Lloyd
Center’s work and says that the Clambake is
a tradition upon which so very much depends.
“Funds raised at it”, she points out,
“support the Center’s critically important
environmental research, education and
outreach efforts”.
The Clambake requires the skills and hours
of over 100 Lloyd Center volunteers, who
join forces with Jimmy Buffet’s local crew
of Parrot-Heads to make sure everything goes
smoothly under the big white tent by the
side of the sea in Demarest Lloyd State Park
in Dartmouth. D’Arcy MacMahon, Executive
Director of the Lloyd Center, was emphatic
in saying that he was “truly grateful to
everyone that has chosen to be a part of
this very important effort to help protect
the nature of this special coastal
environment. Together, we are making a very
real difference.”
